 "A Superb Grill" 2009-09-28
By S. Crease (Chicago)
I have used the Weber Q 120, with the optional accessory rolling cart and vinyl grill cover, twice, and I am completely satisfied with it. This portable grill assembles easily (great instructions), and starts instantly by pressing a single ignition button (only one click). It takes about 10 minutes to reach cooking temperature. The grill surface is easy to clean with a steel bristle brush and scraper. Also helpful are the two fold out work tables. In lieu of disposable canisters, I hooked it up to a large 20 lb. liquid propane tank (about $20.00 when filled, at grocery stores and Home Depot) with a Freedom Grill FG-50HA Stainless Steel Propane Hose Adapter. So far I have grilled salmon, chicken, and eggplant with perfect results. After using this, I can't imagine ever going back to a charcoal grill. As usual, Amazon's shipping was on time, as promised.  "Good as charcoal..., well getting there." 2009-09-10

I like the convenience of this grill. I also have the rolling stand for it, which is secure for the most part, but a kind of wobbly when brushing the grill, but that's for another review. One thing that always bugged me was how it couldn't maintain a high temp. If I lid foil on the grill while heating, it seared great on the first side, but lost a lot of heat and could never really sear the other side the same.

I tried adding pumice into the grill to capture more heat. There was not that much difference.

Then I drilled out every hole on the burner with a 1/16" bit. I had made an attempt to enlarge the holes using a scratch awl, but you have to drill to get results. It gets slightly bigger, but it's all you need. Now the 2 second hand rule for grill temp is in effect. Now the flames get a nice purply border.

The only problem is that on full or even near full, without the cover open there isn't enough oxygen to feed the gas at the beginning of the tube. When I open I see the row light back up. Another problem that might be good is that one side of the grill is noticeably hotter when you are cooking. Two things to try next is to move the pumice to the cooler side to even out the temp. Also, I think if you create some sort of hole within the pumice with a metal tube would let more oxygen into the grill from below to keep the gas light. Also the screened hole at the end of the burner tube could be enlarged, that would definitely help.

One other problem. After reaching cooking temp, if the flames go out, you have to wait for the grill to cool down before it will light again.

I'll see how the fixes work.

 "Love it" 2009-08-30

First of all I gave it 4 * because its a gas grill and I'm a charcoal guy so no gas grill will ever get 5*. Getting beyond that prejudice I bought it for week long trips to the outer banks where we grill fish all week. Other then a little trouble getting a bottle started it just works well. The folding base is also great to have. My wife refuses to light my charcoal grill but has been using this when I am traveling. I got an adapter for a large propane bottle for around the house.

Basically it folds easily, cleans easily, and works great. this is a superior product

 "Great Portable Gas Grill" 2009-07-03
By taislid1 (North Dakota)
This is a fantastic little portable gas grill. We bought the 120 to take on camping trips, which haven't really materialized yet. However, I gave my father my 4 year old Weber Genesis grill for Father's Day. I ordered a new Summit natural gas grill that is still on backorder from Weber. So I've been using this unit as an interim replacement for my full size grill.

WOW! What a job this thing has done! Its every bit as good a grill as my Genesis in a small little package. Nice even heat. The cast iron grate is nice. The only thing this grill lacks is the covered burners that eliminate flare-ups from basting. Even that was only an issue a couple times using sauces that are known to cause fires.

The plastic side tables are large enough to use as a staging area for those items waiting to be thrown on the grate.

It folds up into a nice little portable package that is easily carried wherever it is needed. The cover fits fairly well even with the propane bottle still attached.

I know this isn't meant to replace a full size grill, but it surely could for those that are using it only to do burgers, brats, or steaks. For those folks who prepare whole meals on the grill and/or require a side burner for sauces, marinades, etc, obviously the WeberQ120 isn't the grill of choice.

Weber definitely hit a home run with this little jewel of a grill!

 "Handy portable gas grill" 2009-06-16
By Ganesh S. Siruvalure (Olathe, KS)
I bought the Weber Q 120 grill three weeks back and found it to be very good. I have grilled three weekends in a row, hosted a small party and the grill was very handy. I grilled vegetables, chicken, shrimp and Boca Burgers, all of the came out very well. I also bought the rolling cart and the 20 LB propane tank adapter. It heats up pretty quick and cooks good, cleaning is easy as the grill is removable, the drip pan is very convenient and can be easily removed for cleaning. I am yet to take it out of my home and see how portable it is, but do not doubt its capability. It is light in weight but durable enough for some travel.
